CSUSB Toastmasters: INFJ: My Connection with inFAMOUS

On Oct. 12th, I completed my 10th speech entitled, “INFJ: My Connection with inFAMOUS” for CSUSB Toastmasters. I decided that it was time to record my 10th speech, because I want to show my growth and accomplishment.

I started my speech by saying INFJ stands for introverted intuitive and according to 16personalities.com. INFJ’s who faced obstacles in real life may be pleased beyond words with the obstacles they could overcome within the digital world. I also had an inFAMOUS 2 video embedded in my PowerPoint Presentation, and it played perfectly, but without audio. I wasn’t too happy about that, but the show must go on (I have the inFAMOUS 2 video I planned on using on the video page of my website, entitled "inFAMOUS 2: Bertrand Takes the Stage"). I was able to move forward with my speech, and made a great impression on the audience. To see my speech video and inFAMOUS 2 "Bertrand Takes the Stage" gameplay video, click here.

I also spoke about how I was invited to attend a conference for Startup Grind, partnered with Google for Entrepreneurs. I said out of thousands of applicants, I was chosen among others to attend their conference in Los Angeles, CA on Sept. 27th.

When people approached my table, I told them I am a two-time cancer survivor and inspirational speaker. I also said when I speak, I’m going to talk about my experiences and realities and connect that with the inFAMOUS videogame franchise and superhero Cole MacGrath.

When I showed them the “Darryl and Cole Comparison” picture, I explained the similarities and people got what I was talking about instantly. I also had a little mishap during this part of my speech when I was talking about the two pictures.

For instance, I said this photo was taken of me when I was 14 years old in 1999, and the other image I lifted from the original inFAMOUS, which came out in 2000. I meant to say 2009, because that was when the game was originally released (I did some extra video editing to fix that error).

I concluded my speech by saying, “I can’t explain how great it felt to finally feel understood, after years of feeling misunderstood. For example, one guy approached me and said if he owned PlayStation, he would be honored to have my story attached to his brand.”

Overall, I felt I performed well, and I got across the main points that I wanted, but there is always room for improvement. I joined CSUSB Toastmasters in Oct. 2015, and I was able to accomplish a lot in such little time. Since I completed 10 speeches, I will be receiving a certificate for my accomplishment.
