Reaching out to the Unified School Districts

My goal this week was to reach out to the unified school districts near Victorville, CA. When I attended the Network After Work event last month, I met a person who works close with the unified school districts in Los Angeles.

When I told him about my story and what I wanted to do as an inspirational speaker, he encouraged me to reach out to the unified school districts via Facebook and LinkedIn. He explained to me that it would be easier to get in touch with the different high schools, and he said I really need to sell myself because my story is different, unique and could help young people.

I reached out to the Victorville Unified School District and the Hesperia Unified School District. I contacted both of them via e-mail from their Facebook pages. The Hesperia Unified School District replied back to me within a few minutes via e-mail. They said thanks for contacting them, and they were going to pass my information to anyone who is interested in my services and would contact me for more information. They also thanked me again for reaching out to them.

I haven’t heard anything from the Victorville Unified School District yet, but I’m hoping to hear something from them soon. I grew up in Victorville, CA and for me personally. I think I will have the most emotional impact on the students when I speak at the high schools from my home town.

The students will be able to see that I was able to overcome many adversities, but at the same time see that I’ve come from similar beginnings as them since I’m a graduate from Silverado High School (I’m also going to reach out to the Inland Empire, Orange County and Los Angeles school districts).

I came across a website http://ezinearticles.com/. They specialize in helping people get exposure, credibility and traffic back to your website once you submit high-quality original articles. My first article was entitled, “Welcome to CalmandStrong,” and it’s my biography (the same that’s on my website: under the About Darryl tab) explaining my experience of being a two-time cancer survivor.

Towards the end of the article, I have my contact information (telephone, email and website) and I ended the article with a quote from myself. “When you feel passionate about something, follow your instincts because Nothing is More Powerful Than a Made up Mind.” – Darryl C. Richie.

Once my article gets published by the website. I should expect more traffic to my website, which will give me a platform to network and acquire new clients.

* While talking to my parents this week, I told them what I’ve been doing pertaining to my brand CalmandStrong. For example, I told them about my experience when I went to the Network After Work event with the connections and advice I got from the many people I met. When I spoke at Loma Linda Hospital doing a questions and answers with the children cancer patients, and of course reaching out to the unified school districts of the high desert in California.

* Both parents said they were proud of me and the progress I’ve made so far. They also mentioned that they support me 100%, which was comforting because I know in American society the norm is to go to college, get a nine to five job and make money. I’m glad they see the potential in what I’m doing, and how I could help people.

* From being around my parents the last few months, I’ve noticed that I have my Mother’s creativity and my Father’s determination which will help me get my message out to the world.
