On March 25th, I volunteered at Loma Linda Hospital and one of the pre-teen patients that I’ve been interacting with is close to finishing up his chemotherapy treatment regimen. When he walked into the playroom, he recognized me and asked if I wanted to play video games with hm. We played FIFA 14 on the PlayStation 3 that I donated for the playroom.
Before we started playing FIFA 14, he told me that he was almost done with chemo. I congratulated him and gave him a pound. What took me by surprise was when he remembered that I told him I used to be a cancer patient on the same floor that he is currently on.
He said, “you had your leg amputated right.” I told him yes, but he didn’t know that I was a hip amputee and I explained that my whole right leg is gone due to having knee cancer. We started to play FiFA 14 and once again he beat me 5-0. I think he likes playing that game with me because he knows every time he is going to win.
After plotting and planning, I’m ready to do something different because I feel like I’m at a standstill volunteering at Loma Linda Hospital and going to Toastmasters at California State University, San Bernardino. During the past week, I created a brochure that matches my website, bought a new computer and put finishing touches on my PowerPoint Presentation.
My plan is to go to my high school (Silverado High School) in April and speak to the students. I also want to talk to the Principle and sell myself about what my speech is about. To help state my case, I going to have my Sony Tablet with my PowerPoint Presentation, business cards and brochures.
I feel what I have is creative and unique. I hope the Principle will be open minded and see my vison the way I do. The only thing I could think of that could derail the Principle’s decision to let me speak to the students is when I talk about the inFAMOUS video game franchise.
The game is rated “T” for Teen and the videos that I’m presenting within my PowerPoint has some violence, language and use of alcohol (in the video, Cole and Zeke are holding beer bottles, but don’t actually drink the alcohol). I want people to not focus too much on the violence and language, but more on how similar the main protagonist (main character) Cole MacGrath’s origin story is to mine. For instance, Cole and I were ordinary people, but were still able to overcome extra ordinary adversities.
* I have two PowerPoint Presentations:
1. My CalmandStrong PowerPoint has images of myself and images from the inFAMOUS video game franchise. It also has videos from certain parts of inFAMOUS that helped during my darkest days and music from my favorite Hip-Hop artist’s Nas and The Pharcyde.
2. My CalmandStrong Part 2 PowerPoint is the same PowerPoint that is currently on my website, (under the videos tab) which has images of myself and from the inFAMOUS franchise.
* I’m more interested in presenting my CalmandStrong PowerPoint because it will make it easier for the audience to understand the message I want to get across.
