On June 12th, I tweeted to PlayStation telling them I was excited to see what future PlayStation 4 games they have in store for all us fans. I also wished my favorite developers good luck, and they are:
Sony Santa Monica Studios: Known for God of War
Sucker Punch Productions: Known for inFAMOUS
Insomniac Games: Known for Marvel Spider-Man
(Japan Studio) Team Ico and genDESIGN: Known for The Last Guardian
Three out of the four developers were at E3 displaying their games to the public. For instance, Sony Santa Monica Studio showed off God of War, Insomniac Games showed off Marvel Spider-Man and Team Ico and genDESIGN’s Shadow of the Colossus was originally released for the PS2, and is being remade from the ground up for the PS4 by Bluepoint Games.
Sucker Punch Productions was noticeably absent from E3 for the second year in a row. As a big fan of the company, I know I wasn’t the only person scratching my head wondering, “Where was Sucker Punch?”
I came to my own conclusion that Sucker Punch is working on something special because I remember there was a long break between their PS2 game, “Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves,” which was released in 2005, and the original inFAMOUS, which was released in 2009 for the PS3. That was a four-year gap, and it seems like they are taking their time with their new project, and I’m defiantly ok with that.
Sucker Punch’s last game was inFAMOUS: First Light, which was released in 2014 on the PS4.
Even though I was disappointed Sucker Punch wasn’t at E3 2017, I’m glad Sony is giving them time to perfect their craft and letting them show off the game when they feel it’s ready for the public to see.
It was unexpected and exciting to see Shadow of the Colossus getting remade from the ground up from Bluepoint Games for the PS4. Myself, along with other inFAMOUS fans would love to see the original inFAMOUS videogames starring electric-superhero Cole MacGrath get the same remade or remaster treatment as Shadow of the Colossus and protagonist Wander.
